It sells terminals and subscriptions directly to households and businesses and runs on a large constellation in low Earth orbit. Anyone searching for a Starlink alternative in Europe usually wants a provider that is not controlled from the United States.
Eutelsat Konnect comes from Eutelsat, a satellite operator headquartered in Paris. Konnect and the larger Konnect VHTS satellites sit in geostationary orbit and serve households and small businesses. The separate Eutelsat OneWeb network in low orbit targets business and government customers. Eutelsat sells through distribution partners, so you contact it to find a local provider. Geostationary links have higher latency than low-orbit ones, which Eutelsat itself notes. The French state is the largest shareholder with 29.65 % after the capital increase of November 2025.
There is no European low-orbit service for consumers on the scale of Starlink yet. The EU's IRIS² programme is meant to change that for secure connectivity: on 7 August 2026 the Commission and the SpaceRISE consortium signed the implementation agreement for 348 satellites, with first launches planned for 2029. Its first users are governments and defence, not private households.
