Submit SuggestionWharfedale is a loudspeaker brand founded in Yorkshire, England, in 1932 by Gilbert Briggs. It began with hand-built loudspeakers and grew into a long-running name in hi-fi. The brand's history is British, while its current privacy notice identifies IAG Group Ltd in Shenzhen, China, as the owner. This page describes the brand's present ownership and product range.
Briggs built an early loudspeaker in his home in Ilkley, in the valley that gave Wharfedale its name. By 1933 the business had moved to a small factory near Bradford to produce drive units. Its early products and public demonstrations helped establish the company among British radio and audio enthusiasts.
Wharfedale currently lists bookshelf and floorstanding speakers, subwoofers, centre speakers, installation products and home-cinema options. The catalogue includes the Heritage series, including Dovedale, Linton and Denton models, alongside newer ranges such as Diamond, AURA and Crystal. Product formats allow listeners to compare room size, system layout and intended use.
The British website describes the company as a loudspeaker brand and presents its current product catalogue. Its privacy notice names the Shenzhen-based IAG Group as owner. The historic British name and present ownership are separate facts, and neither by itself establishes where a particular speaker was designed or manufactured.
European speaker makers in the database include Bang & Olufsen in Denmark, Teufel and Nubert in Germany, Genelec in Finland, KEF in the United Kingdom and Audio Pro in Sweden. Their catalogues range from compact home speakers to studio and multiroom products. Buyers can compare the individual models and current availability with Wharfedale's ranges.
