Dedicated builders such as Jimdo, Webnode and Webador are made for people who want a simple site quickly. Framer is the choice when design freedom and a CMS matter more than ease of use. The builders from IONOS, STRATO and Hostinger come as part of a hosting package, which is convenient but ties the site to the provider. All of them now offer AI tools that draft the first version of a site from a short description.
Ownership
Webnode is part of the European hosting group team.blue. Jimdo took 25 million euros from the US investor Spectrum Equity in 2015 for a stake of 26.7 percent, so the founders and other investors hold the larger part. Framer is backed by Meritech and Atomico, among others.
What Europe does not offer
No European builder has the reach of the US and Israeli market leaders, which also run large app stores and agency programmes. If a project needs many third-party extensions, check what the chosen builder offers before moving.
