AdGuard DNS
WebsiteAdGuard DNS is a DNS resolver from AdGuard Software Limited, a company registered in Limassol, Cyprus, which also develops the AdGuard ad blocker and AdGuard VPN. The company was incorporated in June 2009. The public servers are free and need no account. Their main purpose is to block ads and trackers for a whole network, not only for one browser.
Features
- Three public servers: default (blocks ads and trackers), non-filtering, and family protection, which also blocks adult content and enables safe search and safe mode where possible
- Encrypted lookups via DNS over HTTPS, DNS over TLS, DNS over QUIC and DNSCrypt
- Optional private AdGuard DNS with an account: own filtering rules, a dashboard with statistics and a query log whose retention can be set or switched off
- Setup guides for common devices and browsers, plus a profile constructor for iOS and macOS
Privacy and limits
According to the privacy policy, no personal data is processed when the public servers are used; AdGuard only collects general usage statistics that are not linked to a person. The private variant is different by design, because the query log belongs to the account. DNS-level blocking cannot remove ads that are served from the same domain as the page content. For pure malware protection without ad blocking, Quad9 or DNS4EU are the more neutral choices.
