BOREAL is a Spanish outdoor footwear company founded in Villena in 1975. It makes climbing shoes, trail running footwear, hiking and trekking boots, and mountain boots at its facilities in Spain.

Made in Villena

Founder Jesús García López established Calzados Boreal in a town with a long footwear-making tradition. The first products included lightweight trekking boots and leather mountaineering boots. The company continues to manufacture its footwear in Villena, Alicante, combining workshop production with in-house development.

Climbing shoes and sticky rubber

BOREAL began developing climbing footwear with rubber designed to grip rock. Its Firé model, introduced in the late 1970s, became known for this sticky-rubber approach. In 1986 the company presented the Ninja, an early slip-lasted climbing shoe with an elastic closure and a more flexible feel.

Boots for mountain travel

The range also covers hiking, trekking and mountaineering. BOREAL introduced the New-Tex waterproof and breathable lining in 1984 and later developed the Dry-Line system for selected boots. Some mountain models use the FDS sole unit, designed for demanding terrain and crampon compatibility.

Trail running and outdoor use

Trail running shoes extend the catalog to faster movement on uneven ground. Across climbing, hiking and mountaineering, the company develops soles, rubber compounds and upper materials for different surfaces and support needs.

For climbing and hiking

BOREAL makes footwear for indoor climbing walls, rock routes, trails and mountain approaches. Its product choice ranges from close-fitting climbing shoes to supportive trekking and mountaineering boots. The combination of Spanish manufacturing and a long record in outdoor footwear keeps the brand focused on specialist use.
