Borovo

Website

Borovo is a Croatian footwear manufacturer based in Vukovar. It was founded on 7 June 1931 by the Czech industrialist Tomáš Baťa as a Bata factory and was nationalised after the Second World War. In socialist Yugoslavia it grew into one of the largest footwear producers in the region.

Products

  • Startas, the sneaker launched in 1976 and still a well-known Croatian classic
  • Borosana, orthopaedic and special-purpose shoes developed in 1968
  • Everyday footwear, slippers and handbags for women, men and children under brands such as Borovo Comfort and Inblu

Borovo sells through its own stores and a web shop for Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and Austria, and also offers custom-made footwear.

The company's history is closely tied to Vukovar, where it remains one of the best-known employers. Its products are still associated with the region, and the Startas sneaker is often described as a piece of Croatian everyday culture. Prices and availability differ by country shop.
