BricsCAD
WebsiteBricsCAD is a CAD application from Bricsys, a company headquartered in Ghent, Belgium. Bricsys was founded in 2002 by Erik De Keyser and has been wholly owned by the Swedish technology group Hexagon AB since 2018. BricsCAD works natively with the DWG file format, which makes it a drop-in option for companies that exchange drawings with AutoCAD users. Bricsys also has development centres in Bucharest and Singapore.
Features
- 2D drafting and 3D direct modelling in one program.
- Editions for different jobs: BricsCAD Lite, Pro, BIM, Mechanical and Ultimate.
- Building information modelling with a BIM workflow and IFC support in the BIM edition.
- Constraint-based parametric tools for mechanical assemblies in the Mechanical edition.
- Open interfaces for plug-ins and automation.
Model and limits
BricsCAD is commercial software sold as subscription or licence, with a trial version. Its strength is compatibility with existing DWG workflows. For very large assemblies or highly specialised industry add-ons, the market leaders still offer more extensions.
