CANAL+
WebsiteCANAL+ is a French pay-TV and streaming brand of Canal+ S.A., a media group headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux near Paris. The channel Canal+ launched in 1984 as France's first pay-TV channel. Since the group was spun off from Vivendi in 2024 it has been listed on the London Stock Exchange, and the Bolloré holding is its largest shareholder with about 30 percent. In September 2025 CANAL+ gained effective control of the South African pay-TV group MultiChoice, which brought the combined number of subscribers to more than 40 million in nearly 70 countries.
Features
- Films, series, documentaries, sport and live TV through the CANAL+ app and set-top boxes.
- Original productions and French cinema, backed by the group's studio and film business.
- Distribution of other streaming services and channels in one subscription bundle.
- Availability in France and in a number of other European and African countries, with different offers per market.
Model and limits
CANAL+ is subscription-based, and the content and prices differ by country, so the provider's local website shows the current offer. Its catalogue is strongest in French-language film and series and in sport, and it does not match the global reach of Netflix.
