Cumulus

Website

Cumulus is a Polish outdoor equipment maker headquartered in Gdynia, Poland. The company was founded in 1989 by Zdzisław Wylężek, shortly after the end of communist rule, and is still run by the founding family. It specialises in down-filled gear for hikers, trekkers and ultralight backpackers.

Products

  • Down sleeping bags and quilts, including ultralight lines made from 7-denier nylon.
  • Down jackets such as the Plancklite.
  • Custom sleeping bags where customers choose fill weight, face fabric, size and zipper length.

What sets it apart

Cumulus uses Polish down, produces in-house and sells mostly direct to consumers, which keeps prices below many comparable brands from the US. Repairs and a lifetime warranty against defects are part of the offer. The brand grew mainly in Poland first and gained wider European sales after Poland joined the EU in 2004. Today it is known among ultralight hikers well beyond its home market.
