edding is a German brand of markers and writing tools. Its parent company, edding AG, is based in Ahrensburg. Products serve work, school, creative projects and home use.

From Hamburg to Ahrensburg

School friends Carl-Wilhelm Edding and Volker Detlef Ledermann founded the business in Hamburg in 1960 and introduced the edding No. 1 permanent marker. The group moved to nearby Ahrensburg in the 1970s.

Permanent markers

The permanent range includes round and chisel tips in several widths. edding lists models for marking paper, cardboard, metal, glass, plastic and wood. Performance varies by product, with many described as waterproof and wear-resistant. The line includes classic, compact and push button designs.

Writing and creative tools

Other product groups include paint markers, fibre and felt pens, textile markers, calligraphy pens, porcelain brush pens and acrylic products. Different inks and tips serve writing, labelling, drawing and adding colour to selected surfaces. Product pages specify the intended materials and uses.

Refills and care

Many permanent markers can be refilled, and selected models have replaceable tips. edding offers refill systems and care advice. These features vary by model, so users should check product details before buying ink or a replacement tip.

International reach

The edding Group says its solutions are sold in more than 110 countries. It reports 17 offices in nine countries and works with local distributors. These figures cover the wider group, including Legamaster and PLAYROOM, rather than the edding writing brand alone.
