Europcar
WebsiteEuropcar was founded in Paris in 1949 by Raoul-Louis Mattei and is one of the largest car rental groups in Europe. Europcar Mobility Group also owns the low-cost brand Goldcar, InterRent and the car-sharing service Ubeeqo, and it acquired Buchbinder in Germany. The company is owned by Green Mobility Holding, a consortium led by Volkswagen. In April 2026 Volkswagen announced that it will take over the 27 percent stake held by Attestor and raise its holding to about 93 percent.
Features
- Large station network in more than 130 countries, including franchise partners
- Vehicle choice from small cars to vans and trucks, plus long-term rental
- Europcar, InterRent and Goldcar cover the mid-range and the low-cost segment
- Ubeeqo for car sharing in cities
Limits
Europcar is financed by loans from its shareholders and has been in a turnaround phase, according to the rating agency S&P. Prices vary a lot by station and booking channel. Because the group also owns Goldcar and InterRent, an offer under a different name can come from the same company.
