GitLab
WebsiteGitLab is a DevSecOps platform that combines Git repository hosting, code review, CI/CD pipelines, issue tracking and package registries in one application. It is developed by GitLab Inc., a US corporation incorporated in Delaware in 2014 and listed on Nasdaq since 2021. The company works remote-only and states in its SEC filings that it has no headquarters. The project itself started in 2011 in Ukraine. GitLab is listed here because its Community Edition is open source and can run on your own servers in Europe.
Features
- Git repositories with merge requests, code review and fine-grained access control
- Built-in CI/CD pipelines to build, test and deploy
- Issue tracker, boards and a wiki for every project
- Container and package registries
- Many security, compliance and governance features sit in the paid tiers
Licence and pricing
GitLab is open core. The Community Edition is released under the MIT licence and can be self-hosted free of charge. The Enterprise Edition adds features under a proprietary licence that requires a paid subscription for production use, and those parts are not open source. The hosted service GitLab.com has a free tier limited to 5 users per top-level group and 400 compute minutes per month, plus paid Premium and Ultimate plans.
