Website

IntelliJ IDEA is an integrated development environment (IDE) for Java and Kotlin from JetBrains. The company was founded in February 2000 and is headquartered in Prague, Czechia.[1] An IDE combines editor, code completion, refactoring tools and a debugger in one program, and IntelliJ IDEA is used for general software development, not only for web projects.

Free core, one product since 2025.3

With release 2025.3, JetBrains merged the former Community Edition and the Ultimate edition into a single IntelliJ IDEA. The Community Edition is no longer distributed as a separate product.[2] All core Java and Kotlin features stay free for private and commercial use and need no activation.[3]

Subscription and limits

Even without a subscription the IDE remains fully functional and free to use for commercial and non-commercial projects.[2] JetBrains also sells subscriptions for additional features, so check the current plan before you rely on a specific function. JetBrains develops many other IDEs, for example for other languages; each of them has its own page or category here.
