Jolla
WebsiteJolla is a Finnish mobile technology company founded in 2011 by former Nokia and MeeGo team members. It develops Sailfish OS and makes phones designed around that operating system. The 2026 Jolla Phone supports Android apps, following Jolla’s first smartphone in 2013.
Sailfish OS and its roots
Sailfish OS is a Linux based mobile operating system developed by Jolla in Finland. It reports more than 60 software releases across many hardware platforms. The Sailfish OS 5 release added system updates and improved Android AppSupport, and is available for supported devices.
Phone hardware
The 2026 Jolla Phone has a Full HD AMOLED display, dual SIM, expandable storage and a replaceable battery. Its physical privacy switch can disable selected hardware functions. The phone is assembled in Finland, and the store lists replaceable back covers in several colours, along with accessories and spare parts.
Apps and everyday use
Sailfish OS runs its own applications and can also run many Android apps through Jolla AppSupport. This gives users access to common messaging and utility apps without making Android the phone’s operating system. Jolla presents its phone as a Linux based alternative for people who want a different mobile software platform.
Community shaped development
Jolla invited Sailfish community members to vote on the new phone’s characteristics and specifications. The company also revived The Other Half concept, an open hardware platform for smart covers and add-on modules. The product range therefore connects a Finnish phone maker, Sailfish OS and an ongoing community program.
