L'Occitane

Website

L'Occitane en Provence was founded in 1976 in Manosque in southern France. The company behind it, Groupe L'Occitane, is registered and headquartered in Luxembourg and led by its chairman and controlling shareholder Reinold Geiger. Since a take-private in 2024 it is no longer listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. The group operates more than 3,000 retail outlets, of which about 1,350 are its own stores, in over 90 countries.

Features

  • Skin care, body care and wellness products under the L'Occitane en Provence brand
  • Group brands including Melvita, Erborian, Elemis and Sol de Janeiro, which have their own websites and ranges
  • Own boutiques plus sales through third-party retailers and an online shop
  • Group reports and brand sites for each of its brands

Ownership

Reinold Geiger remains the controlling shareholder. For the 2024 take-private he was backed by financing from Blackstone and Goldman Sachs Alternatives, two US investors, which is why the ownership is mentioned here. Because Geiger and existing shareholders stay in control, the directory does not flag a non-European parent. The brand story centres on Provence, but the group's seat is in Luxembourg.
