LimeSurvey
WebsiteLimeSurvey is an open-source survey platform from LimeSurvey GmbH in Hamburg, Germany. The project started in 2003 as PHPSurveyor and is released under the GNU GPL. It runs on your own server or as a hosted cloud service, which makes it a frequent choice for universities, public bodies and companies that want control over survey data. As a self-hostable alternative to SurveyMonkey and Google Forms it is the most flexible option on this page.
Features
- Many question types with branching logic and conditions based on earlier answers
- Surveys in many languages, the project lists support for over 80 languages
- Participant invitations with access tokens, quotas, and anonymous or non-anonymous surveys
- Export of results to common data formats for further analysis
- Free Community Edition for self-hosting plus hosted cloud plans
Pricing and limitations
The Community Edition is free under the GPL, but installation, updates, backups and security are the operator's job. The hosted plans are paid and include a free entry option. The editor offers far more settings than simple form builders, so building a complex questionnaire takes longer to learn than in Typeform or Tally.
