Magic Earth

Magic Earth is a navigation app for Android and iOS from Magic Lane International B.V. in the Netherlands, a European alternative to Google Maps and Apple Maps for turn-by-turn navigation. The app is closed source. Its maps are based on OpenStreetMap data.

Features

• Navigation for car, pedestrians, bike, public transport and truck
• Offline maps, real-time traffic and weather, 3D maps
• Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a version for cars running Android Automotive
• Activity recording and personalised voice guidance

Privacy

The vendor states that it does not collect personal data, does not track movements and does not sell user information. Because the code is not public, this claim cannot be checked independently.

Pricing model and limitations

Since September 2026 Magic Earth is freemium. Map browsing, search, favourites and turn-by-turn navigation are free. Premium, sold as an annual licence with a trial period, adds features such as offline maps, real-time traffic and weather, and CarPlay or Android Auto. Anyone who needs open-source software will not find it here.
