Malt
WebsiteMalt is a freelance marketplace from Paris, France. The company was registered in Paris in 2013 and brings independent specialists and the companies that hire them together: developers, designers, marketers, consultants and interim managers. It is not a general social network. Its core is a searchable directory of freelancer profiles with skills, past projects and client reviews.
Features
- Profile search for companies, with keyword and AI-assisted search, plus project requests that match freelancers to a brief
- Chat with freelancers before a project starts, ratings and reviews from earlier clients
- Digital contracts, quotes, invoices and payments in one workflow, with legal documents of freelancers verified
- Projects insured through Hiscox, according to the Malt website
- For larger companies: custom talent pools and integrations with procurement systems such as SAP Fieldglass, Coupa and Workday
Scope and limits
According to its site, Malt lists more than 850,000 freelancers, and its media kit names France, Belgium, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands as markets. It suits people who work as independent contractors and companies that want to hire them. It does not offer a news feed or a classic employee job board, so it replaces only the freelance side of LinkedIn. Investors such as Eurazeo and Bpifrance hold minority stakes; Goldman Sachs Growth Equity co-led a 2021 funding round, also as a minority investor. Fees and terms differ by country and are published on Malt's website.
