
MB WAY
WebsiteMB WAY is the leading mobile payment solution in Portugal. It was launched in 2015 by SIBS, the interbank service company based in Lisbon that also runs the Multibanco ATM and payment network. SIBS reports more than 6.5 million MB WAY users on its 10th anniversary in October 2025. The app is linked to the user's bank cards and accounts and is used in shops, online and between people.

Ownership and limitations
SIBS is owned by banks operating in Portugal and was set up in 1983. MB WAY works with bank accounts in Portugal and is aimed at the Portuguese market. Together with Bizum, Bancomat, Vipps MobilePay and Wero it belongs to the European Network for Payments founded in September 2026, which plans to open transfers and payments to 13 European countries step by step. Since mid-2025, MB WAY users can already send and receive money with users of Bizum and Bancomat via the phone number.
