Seznam

Seznam.cz is a Czech internet company based in Prague. Ivo Lukačovič founded it in 1996 as the first Czech web directory and remains its main shareholder. Besides its search engine it runs a portal with maps, email, news and a business directory, all aimed at Czech-speaking users.

Features

• Web search built on Seznam's own search technology, which the company introduced in 2005, with its own crawler SeznamBot
• Mapy.com (formerly Mapy.cz) for maps, route planning and hiking and cycling routes
• Email.cz, the news service Seznam Zprávy and the business directory Firmy.cz
• Sklik, Seznam's advertising platform

Good to know

The search engine is built around Czech-language content and users, so it is a local alternative rather than a general replacement for global engines. The company has its own index, unlike many privacy-oriented engines that buy results from Bing or Google.
