Storytel
WebsiteStorytel is a Swedish subscription service for audiobooks and e-books, built by Storytel AB in Stockholm. Its roots go back to 2005, when Jonas Tellander and Jon Hauksson launched the audiobook service Bokilur. The company later adopted the Storytel name and developed streaming alongside publishing and audiobook production.
Listen and read in one service
Subscribers can browse a digital catalog of audio and e-book titles across fiction, nonfiction, children's books and other genres. The Storytel Group reports more than 1.8 million titles in over 55 languages across its streaming brands. Catalog selection and available subscription plans vary by market.
Books for online and offline use
The Storytel app lets members save audiobooks for offline listening. E-books are added to a personal bookshelf and become available offline after opening them in the app. Listeners can search titles, follow a book while listening or reading, and continue where they left off on a mobile device.
Storytel Originals and publishers
Storytel's history includes locally produced audiobooks and the launch of Storytel Originals. The group now operates both streaming and publishing businesses, with book publishers and audiobook imprints in several countries. This links digital access to its work in commissioning, producing and distributing stories.
A service with international reach
The group says its streaming brands serve more than 25 markets and nearly 2.7 million paying subscribers. Alongside Storytel, the portfolio includes Mofibo and Audiobooks.com. Local language catalogs and subscriptions give the service a different selection in each market.
