TYPO3

TYPO3 is a free, open source content management system written in PHP. The Danish developer Kasper Skårhøj created it in 1997 and presented it publicly in 1998, releasing it under an open source license with an extension architecture. The TYPO3 Association, registered in Baar, Switzerland, supports the project.

Features

• Content management for large and multilingual websites
• Extension system with a large community ecosystem
• Self-hosting under the GNU General Public License

TYPO3 is especially widely used in Germany.

Background

The project began as a personal development by Kasper Skårhøj and grew into a community effort with partner agencies and extension developers. The TYPO3 Association is registered in the canton of Zug, and TYPO3 GmbH operates alongside it in Germany. Because the software is open, organizations can run it on their own servers.
