ZITADEL

ZITADEL is an identity platform for applications and developers. It was founded in 2019 in Switzerland, and its Swiss company CAOS AG has its office in St. Gallen. Today the company also appears as Zitadel, Inc. with a San Francisco address, which the privacy policy names as the controller and parent of CAOS AG. The listing therefore carries the note about a non-European parent. The software is open source and can be run on one's own servers.

Licence and limits

With version 3 in March 2025 ZITADEL changed its license from Apache 2.0 to AGPL 3.0; SDKs and examples stay under Apache 2.0, and a commercial license is available for cases where AGPL does not fit. Compared with Keycloak the project is younger and smaller, but it is easier to start with and offers a managed cloud service from the vendor itself.
