Choosing remote desktop software in Europe

For support sessions with customers, TeamViewer and ISL Online are built around remote support workflows, and ISL Online also offers unattended access to an unlimited number of computers. AnyDesk concentrates on quick access to computers and servers and lists an on-premises option for organisations that want to operate the connection infrastructure themselves. ISL Online offers self-hosting as well. NoMachine is the natural choice for access to a personal workstation and for Linux, since its technology was built for the X Window System, and a free edition exists for personal use. TeamViewer is free for private use and needs a paid licence for commercial use, so the licence terms matter as much as the features.

Ownership notes

All listed products are made by companies headquartered in Europe. AnyDesk has taken venture capital from European and US investors, among them EQT Ventures, Insight Partners and General Atlantic, and no majority holder is publicly reported. TeamViewer is a listed company whose former owner, Permira, has sold its holding.

What Europe does not offer

The list is short and contains only proprietary products, so there is no European open source option here yet.
