Bolt Logo

Bolt is a mobility platform from Estonia. Markus Villig founded the company in 2013 in Tallinn as Taxify, aged 19. According to the company page, Bolt serves more than 200 million customers in over 50 countries and 850 cities. For ride-hailing it is the best-known European alternative to Uber.

Features

  • Ride-hailing in cars and, in some cities, taxis booked through the app
  • Scooters and e-bikes in many cities
  • Bolt Drive for car sharing
  • Bolt Food and Bolt Market for food and grocery delivery

Limits

Bolt is privately held and venture-funded. Availability depends on the city, and markets outside Europe are part of the same app. Prices change with demand, as with other ride-hailing services. The app is available for iOS and Android, and rides are paid through the app.
