Fentimans

Fentimans is a botanical brewery in Hexham in Northumberland. In 1905 Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton, received a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer as security for a loan that was never repaid. He then began making Fentimans Ginger Beer and sold it door to door by horse and cart in ceramic jars. The dog on every bottle is Fearless, his dog.

Ownership

For over a century the business stayed with the Fentiman family, most recently owned by Thomas Fentiman's great grandson Eldon Robson. In February 2026 the Scottish soft drinks company AG Barr, maker of Irn-Bru, announced that it had acquired Fentimans together with the juice brand Frobishers. Barr is a UK company, so the non-European parent flag does not apply.
