GatewayAPI is an SMS gateway from Denmark. It is owned and operated by ONLINECITY.IO ApS in Odense, a company that has built messaging platforms since 1999. Developers and companies use it to send and receive SMS through an API in more than 200 countries and to run HLR number lookups.

Data protection

GatewayAPI says data is stored by a cloud provider that operates in the EU and is owned by an EU company, and that connections run through telecom companies and A2P providers in the EU by default. An optional EU setup puts hosting and ownership entirely within the EU. The company receives ISAE 3000 and ISAE 3402 auditor statements on GDPR compliance every year and publishes a data processor agreement.

Limits

GatewayAPI is a focused SMS and messaging gateway, not a full communications platform with voice and chatbot tools, and it is smaller than Sinch or Infobip.
