genua

genua is a German IT security company based in Kirchheim near Munich. It was founded in 1992 as a company for network and UNIX administration and is part of the Bundesdruckerei group, which holds 52 percent of genua GmbH. genua builds firewalls, VPN gateways and remote access solutions for public authorities, critical infrastructure and companies with high security requirements.

Products

• genuscreen: firewall and VPN appliance, also as a virtual version; genugate: high-resistance firewall
• genuconnect: VPN client; genusphere: zero trust application access
• genubox: remote service solution for secure maintenance access to machines and systems
• BSI approvals for processing German VS-NfD (restricted) data; genua says it was the first manufacturer to offer firewalls with such approvals

Good to know

genua mainly serves organisations that must meet official security requirements and is not aimed at hobby use. A small team that only wants to connect a few devices will find a mesh VPN such as NetBird easier to start with. genua is a good fit when certified German technology is a requirement.
