Healthchecks.io is a monitoring service for cron jobs, backups and other scheduled tasks. It is run by the Latvian company SIA Monkey See Monkey Do, was founded in 2015 and is open source under the BSD license. The hosted service runs on bare metal servers at Hetzner.

How it works

  • Every job gets a unique ping URL. The job sends an HTTP request to it whenever it runs.
  • If the ping does not arrive within the set period plus grace time, Healthchecks.io sends an alert.
  • Alerts go out by email, webhook, Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Telegram, Signal, ntfy, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, phone call, SMS, WhatsApp and many more channels.
  • The free plan covers 20 cron jobs. The code is open, so it can also be run on your own server.

Limits

Healthchecks.io does not poll websites from outside. It tells you that a job did not report, not that a web page is down. Combine it with a classic uptime monitor such as UptimeRobot or Oh Dear for that.
