Non-European but Open Source

The Open Source category highlights projects that, while originally developed in countries outside of Europe, allow anyone from around the world to contribute. These projects are not bound by geographic location—anyone, regardless of where they are based, can review, modify, and improve the code. The key factor is that the source code is available for anyone to examine, ensuring that the product can be independently verified and trusted, regardless of its origin. By featuring open-source projects, we promote transparency, collaboration, and innovation on a global scale.

Uptime monitoring services check a website, an API or a server from outside at fixed intervals and send an alert by email, SMS, chat or webhook as soon as it stops answering. The European uptime monitoring services below are run by companies headquartered in Europe, which makes them candidates when looking for a Pingdom alternative or a European replacement for a US monitoring tool. Most of them also offer public status pages and warnings before a certificate expires.

Which tool fits which job

  • Simple website checks on a small budget: UptimeRobot has a free plan, which is why many private sites start there.
  • Checking a whole site: Oh Dear also looks for broken links and mixed content, not just for an answer from the homepage.
  • Complex user journeys: Uptrends simulates web and API transactions from many locations and suits larger teams.
  • Cron jobs and backups: Healthchecks.io works the other way round, your job reports in and you get an alert when the ping is missing.
  • Full control: Uptime Kuma runs on your own server. It only sees your site from where it runs, so a second location is worth considering.

What to check before choosing

  • Check interval: One to five minutes is common, and faster checks usually need a paid plan.
  • Alert channels: SMS and voice alerts are often billed separately, for example through credits.
  • Status pages: Check how many are included and whether a custom domain is possible.
  • Data protection: A European registered office does not tell where individual check servers run. Ask for a data processing agreement.

FAQ

Is there a European alternative to Pingdom?

Is UptimeRobot a European company?

Yes. The service is operated by UptimeRobot s. r. o. in Bratislava and has belonged to the Czech/Slovak company itrinity since 2019.

What is the difference between uptime monitoring and a status page?
