Millet
WebsiteMillet is a French outdoor brand focused on clothing, footwear and equipment for hiking, climbing, mountaineering and other mountain activities. Its current catalog includes technical jackets, insulated layers, trousers, packs, climbing shoes and equipment for travel in the outdoors. The brand serves people who walk local trails as well as climbers preparing for demanding alpine routes. Product availability varies by market, but the collection is built around practical use in changing weather, varied terrain and long days outside.
A family company founded in 1921
Millet began in 1921 when Hermance and Marc Millet started making bags near Lyon. The family moved the business to Annecy in 1929, placing it close to the Alpine landscape that would shape the brand. In the postwar period, Millet worked with mountaineer Louis Lachenal on packs designed for climbing and mountain travel. That practical relationship between equipment and mountain use remains part of the company story. Over more than a century, the label expanded from bags into a wider range of clothing, footwear and technical outdoor products.
Equipment for mountain activities
The clothing range includes shells, insulating jackets, fleece layers and trousers for different conditions. Footwear covers walking and climbing, while backpacks are organized for activities such as hiking and mountaineering. The wider offer includes bags and specialized equipment that help people carry clothing, food and tools on the route. The design goal is to give outdoor users useful combinations of protection, movement and storage. Customers can select garments and equipment for short hikes, multi-day trips or climbing, taking account of weather, route and the needs of their activity.
Designed and supported from Annecy
Millet Mountain Group identifies Annecy as its headquarters. The company says its Annecy teams design collections and handle product development, marketing, sales and support functions. The brand therefore remains closely connected with the French Alps while selling through retailers and its own online stores in multiple countries. The group also has specialist teams working on production, supply chain and after-sales service. Its background combines a long product history with an active international retail presence.
Part of Millet Mountain Group
Millet is operated by Millet Mountain Group SAS, a French company that also includes the Lafuma outdoor brand. CALIDA Group confirmed that it completed the sale of Millet Mountain Group to Jean-Pierre Millet and Inspiring Sport Capital in April 2022. Inspiring Sport Capital continues to list the group in its portfolio, and the company careers site is led by CEO Romain Millet. The group's reported 2020 figures at the time of the sale process were CHF 78.2 million in sales and close to 750 employees. The brand is thus rooted in a French mountain community and backed by a substantial outdoor company.
