MUBI Logo

MUBI is a subscription streaming service for independent and prestige cinema. It describes itself as a streaming service, curator, publisher and distributor, and presents films and series chosen by its own curators, from established directors to emerging filmmakers.[1] It was founded in 2007 by Efe Cakarel and is available in more than 190 countries.[2]

Features

Instead of an endless catalogue, MUBI shows a curated "Now Showing" selection and collections put together by its curators.[1] Under the name MUBI Releases it also brings new festival films to cinemas, so the company works as a distributor as well as a streaming platform.[1] Apps and the website let you watch on phones, tablets and smart TVs.

Ownership and limits

In June 2025 MUBI raised 100 million US dollars in a round led by Sequoia Capital. Summit Partners, an investor since 2021, remains the largest institutional shareholder.[2] MUBI is a paid subscription service with a limited, rotating selection, so it is no replacement for a catalogue of thousands of titles.
