Smash
WebsiteSmash is a file transfer service from Lyon, launched in 2017 and operated by SMASH & CO SAS, whose sole shareholder is the French company Skoring & Co. Smash advertises itself as an alternative to WeTransfer.
Features
- Free plan without sign-up: 2 GB per transfer at normal priority, transfers valid for 7 days. Larger files are accepted but wait in a queue behind paying users.
- Delivery by link or email, password protection, expiry dates and email notifications.
- Paid plans (from 4.80 euros per month on the price page): unlimited transfer size and 30 days validity. Receiving files through a drop link, the Outlook add-in and the API need a subscription.
- Files are encrypted in transit and at rest; the platform has been audited by the security firm Synacktiv.
Hosting and limits
Smash stores files on Amazon Web Services in nine regions worldwide, close to the sender, for example London for UK users and Virginia or Ohio on the US East Coast. Files uploaded from Europe are therefore not guaranteed to stay in the EU, and the infrastructure belongs to a US provider. For a Swiss-only option see SwissTransfer.
