Speedo

Website

Speedo is a swimwear brand that started on Bondi Beach in Australia in 1928, when the Scottish-born founder Alexander MacRae introduced the Racerback suit, the first swimsuit without wool. Today the brand belongs to the British, privately held Pentland Group, which bought Speedo in 1991 and brought the North American business back under the same roof in 2020.

Range

  • Fastskin racing suits for competitive swimmers
  • Endurance training swimwear for pool use, in women's and men's cuts
  • Bikinis and beachwear, swim shorts and jammers
  • Goggles, swim caps and training equipment

Ownership

Pentland Group is a British company with a focus on sports and outdoor brands, and it owns Speedo outright. There is no non-European parent. Speedo is a performance brand first, so fashion-led beachwear is a smaller part of the range than at the luxury names in this category.
