Umami

Website

Umami is an open-source web and product analytics tool from Umami Software, Inc., a company registered in Delaware, United States. Mike Cao started the project in 2020 as a simple, privacy-focused alternative to Google Analytics. The code is published on GitHub under the MIT licence. The company is not European, but the software can be self-hosted, so the data stays on the site owner's own server.

Features

  • Dashboard with pageviews, visitors, bounce rate, countries, devices and referrers
  • Events, UTM campaign tracking, funnels, user journeys and retention
  • Revenue tracking and an API
  • Heatmaps and session replay on the Business cloud plan
  • According to the provider, no cookies and no personal data are collected

Hosting and pricing

Umami can be self-hosted for free. The cloud service has a Hobby plan at no cost with one website and 100,000 events per month, while the Pro plan costs 20 US dollars per month, according to the price list.

Umami focuses on clear reports and a fast setup. Self-hosting means the operator takes care of the server, database, updates and backups.
