Meal replacement drinks, powders and bars sit between everyday food and sports nutrition. Brands sell them as complete meals for people who want a quick option at work, while travelling or after training. This page lists meal replacement brands whose companies have their headquarters in Europe.

How the brands differ

Huel and Jimmy Joy sell mainly powders that are mixed with water and have widened their range with bars and hot meals. yfood concentrates on ready-to-drink bottles and has also added powders and bars. Mana offers a plant-based powder. Two of the four brands have large European food groups behind them: Danone owns Huel and Nestlé, a Swiss company, holds yfood. Both groups are European, so no non-European notice is shown.

What to keep in mind

All four brands describe their products as nutritionally complete. These are statements by the manufacturers, and this page does not assess them. Meal replacement products are no substitute for medical or dietary advice. Anyone with a health condition, children, pregnant women and people with special nutritional needs should ask a doctor before replacing regular meals.

What is missing from Europe

Some of the best-known meal replacement brands, such as Soylent, come from the United States and are not listed here. The European field is small: most companies are young, and several are still independent start-ups, which is why only four brands are shown.
