Aigle
WebsiteAigle is a French outdoor clothing and footwear brand founded in 1853. The American entrepreneur Hiram Hutchinson bought the rubber vulcanisation patent and set up the business in France, and the company has made rubber boots ever since. Boot production moved to a plant in Ingrandes in 1967, where the "Bison" was the first model made by the master bootmakers there.
Features
- Rubber boots, clogs and walking shoes, plus parkas, windbreakers, fleeces, shirts and trousers.
- The "Regatta", the blue boot with two white stripes that Aigle created for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.
- Ready-to-wear since 1989, when the first store opened in Paris, Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
- Since 2020 a mission-driven company with collections that aim to be more environmentally friendly.
Ownership
Aigle belongs to MF Brands, the brand group of the Swiss family holding Maus Frères, which also owns Lacoste and Tecnifibre. The company is based in France, and a Swiss owner is European, so no non-European parent flag applies. Boots are the core of the brand, but the range is a French outdoor and lifestyle label rather than a specialist for high mountain use.
