FlixBus

Website

FlixBus is the intercity bus brand of Flix SE, a mobility company from Munich founded in 2013 by André Schwämmlein, Jochen Engert and Daniel Krauss. Flix does not run most buses itself: it plans the network, sells the tickets and sets the standards, while regional bus companies drive the coaches. The company says it operates in 43 countries and also runs FlixTrain, the long-distance rail brand, and the American Greyhound, which it bought in 2021.

Features

  • Bus tickets for city-to-city routes across Europe, bookable in the app or online
  • FlixTrain rail services on several routes in Germany and other countries
  • E-tickets with optional seat reservation

Ownership and limits

Flix SE is privately held by its founders and investors. In 2024 EQT Future from Sweden and Kühne Holding from Switzerland bought a 35 percent stake, and earlier investors include General Atlantic, Permira and TCV; no single non-European owner holds a majority. FlixBus is a booking brand with partner operators, so quality varies between coach companies, and prices change with demand.
