Gelato
WebsiteGelato is a print-on-demand platform from Oslo, Norway. Henrik Müller-Hansen founded the company in 2007. In August 2021 it raised 240 million dollars in a round led by Insight Partners, which was the first investment that firm made in Norway. Gelato sends each order to a local print partner so that products are made close to the customer instead of being shipped from one factory.
Features
- Local production in 32 countries and more than 250 print providers, according to the Gelato homepage
- Integrations with shop systems such as Shopify and Etsy
- Create and sell custom products online without stock
- Customer support around the clock, as the company states
Costs and limits
The company describes the service as free to start: no setup fees, no inventory, and payment only when an order comes in. The sale price still has to cover the base cost and shipping. Quality and delivery times depend on the local partner that produces an order. Sellers who prefer a package with their own production sites can compare Spreadshirt or Prodigi.
