WebsiteLedger is a French company headquartered in Paris that builds hardware wallets for storing crypto assets offline. It started in 2014 and says it has sold more than 7 million devices to customers in 180 countries. Ledger's signers combine a Secure Element chip with the company's own operating system and are managed through the Ledger Wallet app, formerly called Ledger Live.

Good to know
The operating system of the Secure Element is proprietary, so security relies on certifications and audits rather than on open code. Ledger advises buying its devices only from official channels. Ledger is privately held, and no majority owner is documented.
