European PC game stores sell games for Windows, macOS and Linux from companies based in Europe. This page lists GOG from Poland, Green Man Gaming and Fanatical from the United Kingdom and GamersGate from Sweden. They are alternatives or additions to the large American store Steam.

How the stores differ

GOG is the only store here that makes DRM-free installers the core of its offer and that has its own client, GOG Galaxy. The other three mainly sell activation keys, which are redeemed on Steam, Epic or a publisher's launcher. That makes them a way to buy cheaper or in a different region, but it does not replace a platform account. GamersGate also lists some DRM-free titles.

Ownership notes

GOG was part of the Polish games group CD Projekt until December 2025, when its co-founder Michał Kiciński bought it. Fanatical is a subsidiary of the British publisher Focus Multimedia, which the American company Fandom bought in 2021, so it carries the non-European parent marker. Green Man Gaming and GamersGate are independent companies.

What Europe does not offer

No European store has the community features, user reviews, workshop and hardware ecosystem of Steam. Anyone who wants to avoid a US platform completely finds the closest alternative in GOG, but not every game is sold there. The page about Steam alternatives explains the options, and the category video game publishers and studios shows who makes the games.
