ALDI Nord

ALDI Nord is one of the two independent ALDI companies. It is based in Essen and runs discount supermarkets in Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Spain. The group states that it operates in eight countries with more than 5,500 stores and more than 90,000 employees (company website, 2026). ALDI Nord and ALDI SÜD both go back to a split of the Albrecht brothers' business in 1961.

Range

ALDI Nord describes its concept as good products at the lowest possible price, built on simplicity and a focus on essentials. In France, the company says it offers its customers own-brand products at the best possible price, and in Portugal it emphasises fresh and organic products and a preference for Portuguese producers in categories such as fruit, vegetables and fresh meat.

Where to find it

According to ALDI Nord, there are more than 1,330 stores in France, more than 490 in Spain, around 470 in the Netherlands, more than 440 in Belgium, more than 400 in Poland, more than 160 in Portugal and more than 20 in Luxembourg, next to its stores in northern and eastern Germany (company website, 2026). ALDI SÜD, which runs the stores in the south and west of Germany, is a separate company and is listed separately.

Ownership

ALDI Nord is held by family foundations of the Albrecht family.
