REWE

REWE is the supermarket chain of the REWE Group, a retail and travel cooperative with its seat in Cologne, founded in 1927. According to the group's 2025 results, REWE Group employed about 380,000 people in 21 European countries and reached total external sales of 100.4 billion euros.

Range and structure

REWE is a full-range supermarket. Of its German stores, 1,620 are run by independent REWE merchants under the cooperative umbrella, who in 2025 raised their sales by 7.2 percent to 20.4 billion euros. REWE Group also operates the discounter PENNY and, abroad, the BILLA supermarkets in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe. Those brands are not listed separately here.

Customer programmes

In 2025 the group introduced its own customer programmes in Germany: more than 11 million users already use REWE Bonus, and 7 million customers are registered with PENNY.

Online shopping and delivery

REWE offers a delivery service for groceries. According to group press releases, it tested a highly automated delivery vehicle with LOXO in Bochum in 2025 and announced a multi-million investment in electric Mercedes eSprinter vans for the service. Availability varies by region.
