Pacifiers, also called soothers or dummies, are small products with strict safety rules, and Europe has several makers with decades of experience. This page lists pacifier brands whose companies have their headquarters in Europe, including one with a non-European owner that is marked accordingly.

How the brands differ

The main differences are material and shape. HEVEA makes pacifiers from natural rubber, while MAM offers a one-piece pacifier made entirely of silicone, among other models. BIBS focuses on a round, colourful design, and Philips Avent and NUK offer several lines sorted by age. Which shape a baby accepts varies, so many makers sell sample packs or several models.

What to check before buying

Pacifiers are sold in age sizes, and the size on the pack should match the baby. In Europe, pacifiers have to meet the standard EN 1400 for soothers. Parents who want advice on use, for example in relation to teeth, can ask a paediatrician or dentist. Anyone with a family history of latex allergy should check the material of natural rubber products first. For other baby products, see baby formula, diapers and strollers.

What is missing from Europe

Several well-known pacifier and bottle brands belong to US or Asian groups and are not listed. NUK is the exception: the company sits in Germany, but its owner Newell Brands is American, so it carries a notice.
