eMAG Logo

eMAG is the largest online retailer in Romania, headquartered in Bucharest. It was founded in 2001 and also operates in Bulgaria and Hungary. Besides its own sales, eMAG runs a marketplace on which third-party sellers offer products to its customers.

Features

  • Electronics, household appliances, fashion, books, toys, garden and many other categories.
  • eMAG Marketplace for independent sellers, with fulfilment from eMAG warehouses available to partners.
  • Own pick-up points and parcel lockers in Romania.

Ownership

eMAG is held through Dante International. Prosus, which is controlled by the South African group Naspers, has been the majority shareholder for about 14 years. In June 2026 founder Iulian Stanciu announced the transfer of his remaining stake to Prosus, and the European Commission cleared the takeover of sole control in August 2026. Prosus N.V. is listed in Amsterdam, but its own site names Naspers as the majority owner. eMAG is therefore marked as having a non-European parent.
