HEMA Logo

HEMA is a Dutch retail chain that started in 1926 with a single shop on the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam. It sells everyday products for the home and the family, most of them designed by its own team, and celebrates its 100th year in 2026.

Range

  • Everyday homeware and household products, developed by HEMA's own designers
  • Shops and HEMA's own online channels, with franchise partners next to company-run stores

Where to find it

HEMA names the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany and Austria as the markets where it develops its range, with more than 17,000 colleagues (company website, 2026). In 2025 gross sales grew by 5.6 percent to 2.3 billion euros, and 125 stores moved to the new "HEMA-100" store concept.

Ownership

The Van Eerd family, a Dutch family, completed the purchase of the remaining 50 percent of HEMA from Parcom on 11 February 2026 and now owns the company in full. Earlier owners were the British investor Lion Capital (from 2007) and the Dutch entrepreneur Marcel Boekhoorn (from 2018). There is no non-European parent.
