Kamps
WebsiteKamps is a German bakery chain with its head office in Schwalmtal in the Lower Rhine region. The first Kamps bakery opened in 1982 on Friedrichstraße in Düsseldorf. The company calls itself the best-known bakery in Germany and market leader in North Rhine-Westphalia, with over 3.5 million customer visits a month.
Range
Kamps bakes in its own craft bakery in Schwalmtal and says it uses its own recipes, sourdough and no ready-baking mixes or genetically modified ingredients. The shops sell bread, rolls, pastries, snacks and coffee.
Where to find it
According to Kamps (2026), there are around 340 locations in Germany, mostly in North Rhine-Westphalia, with about 240 franchise partners, who run around 98 percent of the shops, and around 350 employees at the head office and the craft bakery. Argos describes about 340 Kamps bakeries across Germany and the Netherlands.
Ownership
For about ten years Kamps belonged to the French Le Duff Group. In March 2026 the European investment company Argos announced that it would acquire Kamps from Le Duff, with the aim of building a leading German bakery group of more than 400 locations. Kamps now describes itself as part of the ARTOS Bakery Group. Both owners are European.
