Greggs

Greggs is a British bakery and food-on-the-go chain headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne. John Gregg founded the business in 1939, and the first shop opened on Gosforth High Street in 1951. Greggs plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Range

The chain is known for savoury baked goods such as sausage rolls, plus pastries, pizzas, sandwiches and cakes. Its Greggs App gives opted-in customers personalised offers and rewards, according to the annual report.

Where to find it

In its trading update for the 13 weeks to 26 September 2026, Greggs reported a total of 2,796 shops trading, of which 2,157 are company-managed and 639 are franchised units. In 2026 so far, 95 new shops opened and 38 closed (including 20 relocations). The annual report for 2025 gives a workforce of 33,000 colleagues, and over 600 shops with franchise partners.

App

Greggs offers an app for opted-in customers. The product range and opening hours differ by shop.

Ownership

Greggs is a listed public company with a wide group of institutional and private shareholders. No non-European holder controls it.
