Zabbix
WebsiteZabbix is an open-source monitoring platform for networks, servers, virtual machines and cloud services. Alexei Vladishev created it in 2001 and released the first stable version in 2004. The company behind it is headquartered in Riga, Latvia, with offices in Japan, the United States, Brazil and Mexico. Vladishev is its chief executive and owner.
Features
- Metrics from agents or agentless checks via SNMP, IPMI and JMX, with automatic discovery of hosts and templates for common systems
- Alerting, dashboards and reports in a web interface, proxies for distributed environments
- High-availability clustering for the server and Kubernetes monitoring in recent releases, browser-based synthetic monitoring since 2024
Licence and model
Zabbix is free software, licensed under the AGPLv3 since version 7.0 and under the GPLv2 before. The company and its partners sell support, training and consulting. Running it yourself means operating the server, a database and the web frontend, which suits teams with Linux experience and large environments, and is more work than a hosted service.
