European alternatives to Datadog for monitoring servers, networks and cloud services include Zabbix (Latvia), Checkmk and Icinga (Germany) and Centreon (France). All four can be run on a company's own servers, so metrics and alerts stay in infrastructure the company controls. Datadog is a US company headquartered in New York that sells a hosted monitoring platform.

What Datadog offers

Datadog describes its product as cloud monitoring as a service: metrics from apps, tools and services are collected in one place and shown in dashboards, with alerting on top. The data is sent to Datadog's cloud, and the company is based outside Europe, which matters to organisations that want European jurisdiction over their operational data.

European monitoring tools in the directory

  • Zabbix (Latvia): open source under AGPLv3, agent and agentless checks, auto-discovery, proxies and a high-availability cluster.
  • Checkmk (Germany): free community edition and commercial editions; majority owned by a US investor since 2025.
  • Icinga (Germany): open source under GPLv3, configuration as code, REST API and OpenTelemetry export.
  • Centreon (France): infrastructure monitoring, log management and digital experience monitoring in one platform.

What the alternatives do differently

The listed tools are built mainly for infrastructure and network monitoring that the customer operates. That means running a server and a database, but also no usage-based subscription to a US cloud service. Anyone who depends on Datadog's application tracing and hosted log search will not find an identical European hosted product here, and Centreon comes closest with its log and experience monitoring. All tools are compared in the infrastructure monitoring category.
